Thousands of students in schools in Chatham Kent took part in the Great Big Crunch event on Thursday, October 22.
The Chatham-Kent Student Nutrition Program delivered over 15,000 locally grown apples to 46 schools for a delicious afternoon snack. Last year 14,000 students munched apples across Chatham-Kent for the Big Crunch Event.
“We are trying to encourage children to eat more local varieties of fruits and vegetables and this is a fun way to get them started,” said Elaine Lewis, the coordinator of the Chatham-Kent Student Nutrition Program. “We are encouraging students to fuel up with healthy foods to improve their focus at school and to have better health for a lifetime.”
There are 50 school nutrition programs in Chatham-Kent in which 6,500 students enjoy a healthy breakfast, lunch or snack each day.
This event is funded by the Ministry of Child and Youth and the Chatham-Kent Student Nutrition Program.

Awesome.
Deliver more fresh fruit and local produce to these kids. They should be eating local fruits and vegetables every day!
