Bullying Awareness Week across C-K

Bullying Awareness Week is an opportunity for people across Canada to get involved, not by waiting for ‘someone else’ to do something, but rather for us to work together on preventing bullying through education and awareness.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service acknowledges that bullying should not be defined solely as a ‘school problem’ but rather as a community issue. This week, officers are showing their support by wearing pink uniform shirts.

“Although our primary focus this week is on young people, our goal is really for everyone to realize that they have a role to play. We’re wearing pink shirts to raise awareness as we see the effects of bullying every day as part of our job,” says Constable Renee Cowell.

Constable Cowell adds, “We want the citizens of Chatham-Kent to remember that it’s not about what others could or should be doing, but rather what we all can do. Whether it’s the traditional face to face bullying or cyberbullying via the Internet, it’s time we stop being a silent bystander. Let’s stand up and speak out. Together, we can make a difference.”
