A group of women grabbed their song books, Santa hats, and Rudolph ears this past weekend and took to the streets of Wallaceburg to spread some Christmas cheer.
“The idea came to me one night as I listened to the local radio station, and I thought about how music can lift spirits,” said Lisa Holland.
“I thought why not share some Christmas music and surprise people with our songs. To watch the look on people’s faces and the smiles that came across them when they opened the door, was such an uplifting feeling. It definitely warmed my heart to hear some say ‘Thank you… I really needed something like that.'”
Dana Haggith said she had never been Christmas caroling before.
“I have never gone door-to-door caroling before, I hear it was very popular before my time,” she said. “I was surprised at the amount of people who were asking if we were collecting donations for something, it felt so good to reply, ‘no, just spreading some Christmas cheer.’ Even though the weather was feeling like spring.”
Fabienne Therrien said it was a fun time.
“I had a wonderful time carolling with the girls,” she said. “It was nice to see smiles on the faces of the people we sang Christmas songs to. It felt so good we didn’t even need snow to make it feel like Christmas.”
Diana Roocroft said she felt a mix of emotions when going out caroling.
“Got to laugh, cry, hug and share the holiday spirit with people I have never even met before,” she said. “What an amazing uplifting experience.”
Sheryl Fraleigh‎ said it was great to share some laughs
“Can’t sing very well but really enjoyed the happy faces on the people we did surprise singing Christmas carols,” she said. “I would definitely do it again. When you get women together, you can always count on a few laughs.”
Mary Anne Holland said it was the most fun she has had in a while.
“The comradery that us girls enjoyed and the sparkle in the eyes of those we surprised that evening will be remembered for a long time,” shes said.
The group will be meeting again this Sunday, December 20 at 6 p.m. at K9 Klips, 1964 Dufferin Ave.
“Anyone is welcome to join, you can also leave an address if you would like us to come sing to you or know someone who could use some cheer this time of year,” Mary Anne said.
