Police remind people to clean their windshields

snow

As Mother Nature continues to grace us with her presence, the Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to remind all motorists to drive according to the road and weather conditions.

Be prepared for winter driving before you leave home:

– Ensure your vehicle is full of gas and windshield wiper fluid

– Clear all snow and ice completely off the roof, windows, mirrors, lights and license plates

– Carry a ‘Winter Survival Kit’ that includes a flashlight with extra batteries, warm blanket, extra clothing, boots, non- perishable energy foods, candle and matches

– Buckle up, slow down and stay alert

Clear your Windshield

The most important function of your windshield is to allow you to navigate safely.

Remember, that operating a vehicle with a snow-covered windshield is not only dangerous, but against the law.

During the winter months, make sure you have a snow brush and ice scraper in your vehicle.

Motorists in a hurry often only clear the windshield; please take the extra time to clear all windows of your vehicle.

It is an offence to drive with an obstructed view.

Having no clear view to the front, sides or rear of your vehicle may result in a $110 fine.
