The Healthy Kids Community Challenge is Ontario’s new initiative to support the health of our children, and Chatham-Kent has been chosen to be a part of it.

The Healthy Kids Community Challenge unites 45 communities across the province with a common goal: promoting children’s health through physical activity and healthy eating.

Under the banner of ‘SUPER KIDS CK’, they are launching projects that strive to achieve this goal while meeting local needs.

About every nine months, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care will launch a new theme related to physical activity or healthy eating; two protective factors associated with healthy weights in children.

The first theme in the Healthy Kids Community Challenge is Run. Jump. Play. Every Day.

This theme encourages physical activity through a mix of active play, sport, active transportation, and structured activities.

Lots of good things happen when our kids move more – they’re happier, they sleep better, and they do better in school. Being active doesn’t have to mean planned, structured exercise, or something complicated.

Together, the community will rally around each theme, and work with partners to develop programs, policies, and initiatives that promote and enable positive health behaviours in Chatham-Kent.

That means that new ideas and programs are coming to Chatham-Kent – things that make it easier for you and your family to be active and eat healthier.

In fact, to help get the community get started on the right foot, SUPER KIDS CK has sponsored over 180 FREE SKATING AND FREE SWIMMING opportunities across the Municipality in the coming months.

So if you’re looking for something to with your kids after school or on the weekends – they have you covered.
