CRA scam turns up in Wallaceburg

Yesterday afternoon, a 57-year-old Wallaceburg resident reported to police that his mother had received a call from a man purporting to be from the Canadian Revenue Agency.

The man demanded the woman send him $1,000 to cover outstanding taxes or her assets would be frozen.

The woman obliged and sent a money order to the man in Florida.

Through investigation, police learned that the phone number associated with the fraudulent call was 647-557-4997, a web based number from Toronto involved in numerous scams.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to remind everyone that these calls are scams.

  1. Had a CRA E-mail sent to me yesterday. Just deleted it. Stated that I was to receive $500 and to follow a Link. SCAM

  2. In regard to this telephone fraud that seems to be very prevalent recently…..I have a recording of three of these calls that I’ve converted to mp3 format if anyone wants a sample of what to listen for.
