A local dentist is happy to be working in Wallaceburg and serving them with all their dentistry needs.
Dr. Mike Cho-Young has been working at McNaughton Family Dental since January 2015, and is the new owner of the practice. He said this wasn’t his original plan.
“Actually, my wife is a dentist as well,” he said.
“We both have a practice together in Sarnia, but I was looking to branch out, and Wallaceburg was a great area. The opportunity was given to me and I came here to work first of all as an associate. I didn’t have any intention of taking over the office at first, but the longer I was down here and got to work with the great team down here, the wonderful patients and the opportunity was presented to me, I couldn’t turn it down. It has been a great fit for me.”
Dr. Mike is originally from Sarnia.
He graduated from Northern Collegiate in 2002 before attending McMaster University and receiving his bachelor of science degree. He then received his dental degree from the University of Toronto in 2010.
Since that time he has been practicing in Sarnia, had a brief stint in eastern Ontario, and now works in Wallaceburg.
Dr. Mike said McNaughton Family Dental has been located at 68 McNaughton Ave. for the past six years, after they moved over from their former office in the mall beside the former Sobey’s grocery store.
“A lot of team members have been here for well over 10 years,” he said. “They have been here, they know all the patients and it’s a great relationship.”
They offer all general dentistry at their office.
“We do everything from routine cleanings, exams and dental check-ups to basic fillings, crown, dental implants and we do offer a range of specialty services,” Dr. Mike said.
“We have an anesthesiologist who will provide dentistry for people who have some anxiety. We have a periodontist, a gum specialist as well as we have an orthodontist here that can do braces here for people of all ages.”
Melissa Ritchie, the office manager, said McNaughton Family Dental has some special deals and rates for local seniors.
“Everyday, 60 and older get 10% off for seniors, Monday and Thursday they get 20% if they are over 65.
“There  is a non-insured plan that anyone can buy into,” she said.That is $99 for a single person to buy into, it is $149 for a family and that gets them 20% off everything except for major services for a year.”
Melissa added: “We have Dr. Sara Elhawli. She is here on Mondays. She is one of our associates that works doing general dentistry. She can work on adults, kids, cosmetic, general dentistry. Than we have a restorative hygienist Shannon Rankin full time. We also have Kristin Apothecary and Sarah Moniz who all are from our community here doing restorative hygiene. So its a great option for people.”
Melissa said McNaughton Family Dental prides itself in giving back to the community, often giving away prizes, holding colouring contests for kids and making donations in the community with prizes.
“It’s just giving back. Our patients live here and they are the ones that benefit from it,” Melissa said.
