On March 19, 2016, a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was conducting RADAR enforcement on Highway 401 near Queens Line.
Just before 12:30 a.m., the officer observed a westbound Lexus car that appeared to be exceeding the posted speed limit of 100 km/hr. The RADAR registered a speed of approximately 170 km/hr.
The driver turned the vehicle’s lighting system off and on intermittently in an attempt to evade police, but the officer was able to track the vehicle and successfully initiate a traffic stop.
The 26-year-old male driver from Toronto was unable to provide the officer with the insurance card and permit for the vehicle. He has been charged with the following:
– Fail To Stop When Directed By Police, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
– Racing A Motor Vehicle, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
– Fail To Surrender Permit For Motor Vehicle, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
– Fail To Have Insurance Card, contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act
The driver’s licence has been suspended and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days, as per statute.
