An Easter Sunday filled with hope

From the Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

Today marks Resurrection Sunday, more commonly known as Easter.

It is the day that commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Is that something that matters to you?

I am guessing it would if Jesus was someone that you knew personally.

What would it be like if you lost someone you loved very much, but then only a few days later while visiting their grave this person appeared to you, in the flesh?

This actually happened to two women, Mary Magdalene and another woman, also named Mary.

They had gone to the tomb of Jesus but when they got there they found it empty.

An angel appeared to them to say that He had risen.

Matthew 28:8-9 tells us what happened next.

“So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell His disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them.”

Can you possibly imagine how such an incident would have affected these women?

Beyond their wildest hopes He had actually come back to them.

They were there at His brutal crucifixion, marring His appearance beyond recognition and savagely torturing Him to His final breath.

Yet here He was, alive again greeting them on the road.

Our world has so much wrong with it.

There is so much that brings discouragement into our lives, but the resurrection of Jesus Christ restores hope.

We need that message today and every day.

It’s hard to keep running on empty, so find somewhere to go to church today and get your hope tank topped up.

Then get out there and spread some of that hope around.
