Letter: Courteous drivers on Langstaff Line

Image-1

Spring is in the air, the grass is greening up and the birds are coming back.

It’s just about time to start riding my bike again.

I have read quite a few articles lately about cyclists and drivers being at odds with each other.

Each side griping about the others bad habits.

Last year, I road 3033 kms on my bike.

The majority of those kms were accumulated while riding up and down the St. Clair Trail, adjacent to the crystal blue river from which it gets its name.

To get to the trail from my home in Wallaceburg, I ride up what I call the dump road, but is officially called River Road, and then its about 10 kms straight as an arrow across Langstaff Line, sharing the road with cars, trucks and sometimes huge farm equipment.

During all those countless trips back and forth, almost every single vehicle has given me ample room to ride, moving completely over to the other side of the road as they pass.

I always try to wave my hand to say thanks, depending on the wind, and most of the time people wave back.

I am writing this letter because I want to express my gratitude for all the drivers that regularly use Langstaff Line for being the most courteous drivers I have ever experienced and to thank them for proving that at least some cyclists and drivers can get along just fine.
