This week, as we celebrate National Volunteer Appreciation Week, the Chatham-Kent Police Service wanted to acknowledge their Auxiliary Unit.

The Auxiliary Unit is comprised of 21 citizens from the community who play an instrumental role within the Police Service in a volunteer capacity.

Auxiliary members perform important duties such as ride-alongs, traffic control during parades & runs, assist with special community events and crime prevention programs, along with acting as victims & suspects during police training scenarios.

Selected members of the Auxiliary Unit are also cross-trained to assist with marine patrol which allows greater flexibility in deployment and staffing for the Marine Unit.

“The Auxiliary Unit is an integral part of our Police Service,” says Deputy Chief Jeff Littlewood.

“Their dedication and commitment to our community is invaluable. On behalf of the Chatham-Kent Police Service, I would like to thank all the members of our Auxiliary Unit who volunteer their time in an effort to keep Chatham-Kent one of the safest communities in Ontario.”
