Boy dies after getting hit by a truck

Chatham-Kent police are investigating after a boy was struck and killed by a truck.

Last night, around 7:15 p.m. emergency crews responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Smoke Line, near Thamesville.

A 55-year-old Chatham man was driving his Ford F-150 pick-up truck westbound on Smoke Line when he struck a 4-year-old boy who exited the ditch and began running across the highway.

The young boy was playing with friends in the ditch near his home.

The boy sustained life threatening injuries and was transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance. Medical personnel attempted life-saving measures but were unsuccessful.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

The collision remains under investigation by the Chatham-Kent Police Traffic Unit.
