From the Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin
Back on March Break my family took a road trip to Quebec City and Ottawa.
At one point, I had dropped my family off at the front door of a museum while I took the van below to the parking garage to park.
Well, I circled the wagons for a full 20 minutes without finding an open spot and then disaster struck.
Right in the middle of the lane my van’s alternator and battery died.
The frustration I had been feeling as I unsuccessfully searched for a parking spot was now compounded by the angry patrons stuck behind me.
I was, all at once, holding up traffic for three vehicles behind me, blocking another car from trying to pull out, and attempting to converse with a French-speaking security guard whom I am fairly sure was telling me to move my van!
Oh yes, I was also on the phone with CAA trying to negotiate the services of a repairman.
I texted my wife for help, and then I prayed – really hard!
James, a brother of Jesus, once wrote in James 1:2-4: “Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.”
To be perfectly honest, my crown may need a fair bit of polishing after this particular episode.
I got through it, and have certainly learned much in the process, but please don’t ask me to take the test again!
Might that describe you?
I’m betting that you have lots of chances to grow in your faith through trials.
In all likelihood, some of those may even be coming your way this week.
How will you react?
Will you pass the pressure test?
