From the Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin
Have you ever gotten your hopes up about something and then came face-to-face with the loud ‘thud’ of disappointment?
Our family had checked into a hotel on a recent trip to Ottawa and simply were not prepared for the surprise we were about to receive.
After paying for two rooms we headed to the van in pouring rain to get our stuff.
Lugging it down the hallway, tired from a long day of driving, we were looking forward to a nice rest.
However, as we attempted to open the door we found that our key card was not working. After several tries, the door suddenly opened from the inside and out popped a startled man, and along with him, a strong gush of marijuana smoke!
Our pot-smoking friend quickly shut the door, but appeared several seconds later spraying copious amounts of air freshener.
To make a long story short, we chose not to stay and were able to find alternate accommodation that night.
Life is full of surprises, and many of those surprises come in the unfortunate form of disappointment or trouble.
My family has learned that trusting in the Lord is the remedy for dealing with the ongoing problem of disappointment.
Jesus, just before His death, wanted to assure His followers that He would help them.
In John 16:33 He said, “In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”
If you’ll notice, Jesus did not say that we would not face tribulation or disappointment.
What He did say was that He would be there to help us through it.
Go ahead, launch out into this new week.
Much lies before you along the way, including the odd disappointment or tribulation.
Don’t worry, though.
If your eyes are on the Saviour, you’ll make it through just fine!
