Senior darts champions crowned in Wallaceburg

The Chatham-Kent 55+ Games Series held a darts event recently at the Wallaceburg Moose Lodge.

Top place finishers included:

– Ladies Event: Cindy Hooper, Barb Chauvin

– Men’s Doubles Event: 1st Bill Hall and Bernard Comerford, 2nd Dell Chauvin and Frank Micks, 3rd Leonard Beaulieu and Ernie Caron.

– Mixed Doubles Event: 1st Barb Chauvin, Frank Micks, 2nd Dell Chauvin and Cindy Hooper, 3rd Leonard Beaulieu and Mary Miniely.

Top place finishers are now eligible to compete in the 2016 Provincial Summer 55+ Games being held in Midland, Ontario August 9 to 11, 2016.

The Ontario Senior Games Association 55+ Games are composed of 41 districts throughout all of Ontario.

There are over 10,000 participants that take part in a variety of summer and winter activities.

These events are available to anyone over the age of 55 that resides in Ontario. Regardless of your age, gender or athleticism, there is an activity that is right for you.

The Chatham-Kent 55+ games series are played throughout the Municipality of Chatham-Kent with a variety of venues including Adult Activity Centres, Legions, Bowling Lanes, and other facilities.

Each Spring and Fall a variety of outdoor and indoor events are hosted at a variety of locations and venues throughout each District across the province.

In the Chatham-Kent area, up to 30 events are offered through a series of spring /summer and fall events. Winners from these events are eligible to participate in Regional and Provincial events which are hosted throughout the Province on a rotational basis.

Already in progress is a series of 20 events being hosted throughout Chatham-Kent from early April to mid-June, 2016.

The events offered this spring include 4 handed bid euchre, contract bridge, euchre, cribbage, 6 handed pepper, floor shuffleboard, duplicate bridge, scrabble, 5 pin and 10 pin bowling (teams and singles), carpet bowling, darts, prediction walking , swimming, prediction Nordic walking, 5km run, pickle ball, lawn bowling (doubles and trebles), golf, tennis, billiard events-8 ball and snooker.

In addition, other events like slo-pitch, badminton, cycling, table tennis, and bocce will be offered depending on interest expressed.

Winners from these events will qualify to enter the 2016 Provincial 55+ Summer Games being offered in the Midland area from August 9 to 11.

Of particular interest is a relatively new series of events called the Prediction Sports. Walking, running, urban poling and swimming events allow competitors to compete on their own pace.

Competitors predict the time it will take them to complete their activity and the competitor who is the closest to their predicted time is the winner.

Another series of Fall events will be run starting in mid October, 2016 and these will be posed by August 15, 2016.
