The Northern Football Conference (NFC) Western Champion Sarnia Imperials will take to the field for their home opener on Saturday, May 28.

Handling the kicking duties once again this year will be Wallaceburg’s Kevin Allaer.

The former Wallaceburg Tartan will be the place kicker and punter for the squad, something he’s been doing since 2010. He will also be entering his second season as the special teams coach for the team.

“I love it, as a special teams coach it’s nice to have the knowledge in the system that your running and use that in the huddle,” Allear said.

Last year Allaer become the first player in NFC history to be named the special teams all-star selection at the kicker and punter position in the same season.

“I actually didn’t know anything about it until Jake (head coach Jake Cherski) told me, but it’s pretty special and if I can repeat the success I had last season into this season, that’s my main focus and goal entering this year,” Allaer said.

As a team, Allaer said he wants the club to repeat as Western Division champions.

The teams will begin their defence of their title against the Tri City Outlaws on Saturday at Norm Perry Park in Sarnia.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m. and admission is $7 at the gate and children under 12, accompanied by an adult, get in free.

$20 season passes can be purchased at Philly Cheese Jakes, located at 988 Confederation Street, with half of the proceeds going to the ‘Do It For Sarnia’ campaign.

Last season, the Imperials fell short in the semi-finals losing to Ottawa in an OT battle by one point.
