Gun spotted outside courthouse

A man was arrested outside the Chatham-Kent courthouse on Friday, after a witness spotted a gun.

Police officials say on June 17th, Chatham-Kent Police responded to the Ontario Court of Justice at 425 Grand Ave W. Chatham after an employee of the property witnessed a man with a weapon arguing with a woman in the parking lot.

The witness believed the weapon to be a handgun.

Police were able to locate the male suspect in his vehicle as well as several parties that had arrived with him to the parking lot which were now inside the courthouse.

A pellet-handgun made to resemble a real firearm was located inside the suspects’ vehicle.

The man was charged with Utter Threats and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose; his associates where released unconditionally after investigation.

The man was held in police custody pending a bail hearing.
