The Chatham-Kent Police Service K9 Unit help bring a suspect into custody on Wednesday morning, just outside of Wallaceburg.
Police officials say yesterday morning, shortly after 10 a.m. a local farmer observed two men on an ATV riding around his neighbour’s property on Starkweather Line, just outside Wallaceburg.
As the farmer knew his neighbours weren’t home, he watch the men, police said.
They entered a shed and removed a small container of gasoline and returned to their ATV.
The farmer called police and upon arrival, the men drove through a corn field in an attempt to evade the officers.
A perimeter was set up as one of the men fled on foot while the other continued driving the ATV.
The 18-year-old man riding the ATV was stopped by officers as he drove onto the roadway.
K9 Arry tracked the man on foot and following a short chase he was apprehended hiding in a ditch.
The 35-year-old man was transported to Sydenham District Hospital for medical attention where he was treated and released.
Upon being searched incident to arrest, the men were found to be in possession of bolt cutters, a flashlight, ratchet and multi-tool.
Both men of no fixed address have been charged with break and enter, possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000, mischief under $5,000 and being in possession of break-in tools.
Additionally, the 35-year-old man was arrested an outstanding warrant for administering a noxious substance and assault.
Both men have been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
