The Steelers said they released Suisham after he failed a physical.
“Unfortunately Shaun incurred a setback in his recovery from knee surgery that won’t allow him to compete in a timely manner,” said Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert.
“Shaun has played a significant role in our success during his time in Pittsburgh. He has been the consummate professional on the field and in our community. We wish he and his family all the best in the future.”
Suisham joined the Steelers in 2010 and converted 124-of-141 field goal attempts and each of his 173 extra point attempts through the 2014 season.
Wallaceburg Courier Press reporter David Gough penned a column about Suisham this week.
“It has been quite a ride to watch his career,” Gough wrote.
“Anyone who was around in 2011 when Suisham and the Steelers went to the Super Bowl knows what I am talking about. The excitement and joy that this community experienced in the two weeks prior to the Super Bowl was memorable. Wallaceburg was able to experience Suisham’s journey from afar, which was noteworthy, enduring and most of all– fun.”
