The Chatham-Kent Queen of the Furrow Competition will be held at the Chatham-Kent Plowing Match on Saturday, August 13th, at the farm of Mike Buis on 7th Line in Chatham, just off of the Bloomfield.

The Chatham-Kent Plowmen’s Association is looking forward to once again crowning a Queen of the Furrow at this year’s Chatham-Kent Plowing Match as well as a Princess of the Furrow, a new competition this year.

The Queen of the Furrow competition is open to young women residing in Chatham-Kent between 17 and 23 years of age and the Princess of the Furrow is open for those 11 to 15. The competition consists of three main portions – an interview, plowing ability, and a speech. For those interested, a tractor and plow will be provided for use by the contestants for the plowing portion of the competition. The princess competitors will not be required to plow.

The Chatham-Kent Queen of the Furrow and Princess of the Furrow will have the duty of promoting the Chatham-Kent Plowing match and the upcoming 2018 International Plowing Match, both throughout Chatham-Kent and beyond. The winners will represent Chatham-Kent at the 2017 International Plowing Match in Huron, to compete to become the Ontario Queen/Princess of the Furrow.

The deadline for entries is July 23rd. Anyone with questions about the position or to obtain a detailed description of the rules, duties, and responsibilities of the Chatham-Kent Queen/Princess of the Furrow are encouraged to contact Stephanie Campbell, current Chatham-Kent Queen of the Furrow, by phone at 519-365-5952 or by email atscampb17@alumni.uoguelph.ca.
