New leadership roles for economic development

New leadership roles have been assigned within Chatham-Kent’s economic development department.

Effective Sept. 1, Michael Burton has been appointed director of investment attraction and government affairs for economic development

Burton has served as the director of economic development for five years.

He will continue to support ongoing work by economic development and the Mayor’s office in the area of government relations and foreign investment.

As part of the Municipality’s commitment to succession planning, leadership development and talent acquisition, Stuart McFadden, currently Deputy Director of Economic Development and former Wallaceburg business owner, will be serving as the acting director of economic development.

“The Municipality of Chatham-Kent’s Economic Development Services is focused on promoting Chatham-Kent as a destination of choice for business, industry and tourism,” Municipal officials stated in a press release.

“Strong leadership is a key driver in ensuring Economic Development continues to play a critical role in building the community’s economic prosperity.”

During this time, both positions will report directly to the chief administrative officer.

“The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is committed to supporting local businesses and industries to sustain and grow our economy,” stated Don Shropshire, chief administrative officer in Chatham-Kent.

“In order to position Chatham-Kent as a destination of choice for foreign investments, we need to continue the critical work of attracting and retaining new businesses and investments. I am pleased Michael and Stuart will continue to offer leadership to the economic development team and the community to drive economic prosperity in Chatham-Kent.”
