Chatham-Kent welcomes new Cedar Barrel Sauna Craftsmanship

Residents looking to add a touch of relaxation and wellness to their homes have a new local option: handcrafted cedar barrel saunas by Sydenham Sauna Co., founded by Matt Poolman.

Poolman, a dedicated sauna crafter, began his journey into sauna building last summer, driven by a personal cause—a family member’s chronic illness and the search for relief.

Despite red cedar not being native to Ontario, Poolman has established connections with suppliers in London and Wallaceburg, ensuring quality materials for his saunas, while sourcing glass locally from Chatham.

Sydenham Sauna Co. offers these unique saunas with the option of an electric or wood-burning heater, both of which are capable of producing steam for the ultimate sauna experience.

Customers can choose from three different sizes—8 feet, 6 feet, and 4 feet—to fit their space requirements. Poolman provides personalized guidance to help select the ideal sauna and heater combination. Installation of the heater, however, requires professional services—an electrician for the electric heaters and chimney installation for the wood-burning option.

Currently, Sydenham Sauna Co. is offering an enticing deal: free installation and delivery within a 150 km radius from Wallaceburg. The wait time for these bespoke saunas is approximately 2 to 3 weeks, making it a timely addition for those eager to indulge in the sauna experience.

For outdoor installations, Poolman recommends a specific finish to protect the sauna, although the durable nature of red cedar allows for an alternative rustic look if left unfinished to weather naturally.
