Body recovered from Lake Erie

Co3N4Q8WAAAxzumThe body of a Michigan woman was recovered on Monday evening after an extensive search of the water of Lake Erie in Essex.

OPP officials say on August 1, at approximately 8:45 p.m. members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) and the Essex County OPP Marine Unit located the Michigan woman they had been searching for since 4:30 p.m. on July 31, 2016.

The deceased has been identified as Laura Del-Bel, age 56 of Farmington Hills Michigan.

The Essex County OPP Marine Unit, the Essex County Emergency Response Team (ERT), the OPP K-9 Unit, the OPP Helicopter had also been investigating at the scene of an overdue swimmer in Lake Erie, near the Colchester Harbour in Essex.

Police officials say a group of boaters contacted police advising one of the occupants was unaccounted for after leaving the boat to go swimming.

The Underwater Search and Recovery Unit used side scan sonar to search the waters in what had been turned into a recovery effort.
