Baldoon application deferred indefinitely

After dragging on for over two full years, the zoning changes for the former Baldoon Golf Course outside of Wallaceburg are yet to be finalized.

A combined official plan amendment and zoning by-law amendment application had been set to be discussed at the upcoming Chatham-Kent council meeting on Monday, August 22.

However, Municipal officials posted on their website that the application is being “deferred indefinitely to a future public meeting for which further public notification will be provided.”

A report by Storey Samways Planning Ltd. had been on the July 18 planning agenda for Chatham-Kent council.

The item was deferred to August 22.

In the July 18 report, Storey Samways had recommended to re-designate a portion of the land from recreation area to agricultural, highway commercial and to open space/conservation, for certain land on the property identified as having “significant wildlife habitat.”

Here is a full copy of that report.

The Sydenham Current reported back on August 13, 2014 that the Baldoon Golf Club has been sold to two separate buyers and would tentatively shut down in October of 2014.

Local farmer Scott Kilbride and Melissa Gaylard, who runs the restaurant (The Clubhouse at Baldoon), told the Sydenham Current they are the new owners of the Baldoon property, while Jim and Mary Hawryluk no longer have an ownership stake in the property.

We’ll provide more information about this story when it becomes available.
