Members of the Walpole Island First Nation community are being thanked for stepping up to support residents affected by wildfires in Northern Ontario, according to a post from Walpole Island First Nation Council.
The council said community members donated ribbon skirts, clothing and other supplies as part of a donation drive being gathered in Petrolia for the Northern Ontario communities affected by the fires.
“Chi-Miigwech to all of our amazing community members that donated and helped assist with donations in Petrolia for the communities that were recently affected by the wild fires,” the council said in its post, adding that community members “responded to the call to help those in need and took immediate action.”
The council also thanked Brooke Shchrijver and her team for organizing the initiative, and encouraged anyone wishing to contribute further to look up local charities working to assist those affected by the wildfires.
