A Sunday power outage is being blamed for a house fire in Tilbury.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials say on August 28, Chatham-Kent emergency crews attended an address in Tilbury for a house fire.

The fire was under control before it was able to destroy the home, however a moderate amount of smoke damage was caused.

“The cause of the fire was related to the power outage yesterday and involved the stove,” police officials stated.

“When there is a power outage some appliances remain turned ‘on’ and will continue operating upon the return of electricity. Please take extra care and attention when dealing with power outages and make your homes safe in the event electricity returns while you are away/asleep.”
