Three bridges in Wallaceburg are set to have their conditions assessed.

The Municipality’s regular Ontario Structure Inspection Manual (OSIM) inspections determined the need for detailed structural condition assessments to be completed on the following structures over the Sydenham River:

– Base Line Bridge

– Lord Selkirk Bridge on McNaughton Ave.

– Murray St. Bridge

Council approved the proposal submitted by Aecom at a total cost of $234,969.95.

“The goal of this condition assessment is to give a detailed assessment of all three structures to assist with any immediate maintenance or rehabilitating and future planning,” said Adam Sullo, director of engineering and transportation, in a staff report.

“All three structures were identified in Chatham-Kent’s 10 year plan. It is our goal to commit necessary funds to address the needs to evaluate these structures while prioritizing and balancing the needs of the lifecycle bridge program.”

The Base Line bridge was built in 1994. It has an annual average daily traffic of 5,600 and underwent rehabilitation in 2009.

The Lord Selkirk bridge was built in 1950. It has an annual average daily traffic of 19,100, with truck volumes accounting for 25 to 50 per cent of the total traffic. The structure underwent rehabilitation in 2010.

The Murray Street bridge was built in 1974. It has an annual average daily traffic of 10,600 and the structure underwent rehabilitation in 2006.
