Dresden bike thief arrested

A man is in custody after allegedly stealing a bicycle in Dresden, and later resisting arrest in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials say on Monday morning, just before 2 a.m. officers observed a man riding a bicycle west bound on King Street in Chatham.

The officer stopped the man for riding on the sidewalk.

The officer asked him to step off the bicycle as it was previously reported stolen from a residence in Dresden.

As the officer placed the man under arrest, he pulled away and refused to cooperate with the officer.

The man began running but was quickly taken into custody following a short foot chase.

The 20-year-old man has been charged with possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000 and resist arrest.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
