The Ministry of Transportation says motorists can expect delays for the next couple of weeks on Highway 40, just outside of Wallaceburg

Emmilia Kuisma, communications coordinator for the MTO West Region, said the ministry is currently undertaking 3km of pavement resurfacing from Heritage Line to the south limits of Wallaceburg along Highway 40.

“The project commenced on September 14, 2016 and is expected to be completed by September 26, 2016,” Kuisma said in an e-mail to the Sydenham Current.

Kuisma said traffic will be impacted by the work.

“During the work, Highway 40 will be reduced to a single lane, flagged operation, throughout the daytime hours, Monday through Friday,” she said.

“Travelers can anticipate delays up to approximately 20 minutes depending on the traffic conditions.”

Kuisma said both lanes along Highway 40 will be open in the evenings.

“There are no detours in place,” she said.

The Sydenham Current reported this morning that the work caused some significant delays for motorists on Wednesday morning.

“We were stopped at Rona and took us 30 minutes to get to Heritage Line where it ends,” Gail Cook said, adding the delay caused her husband to be 40 minutes late for a doctors appointment.

“We should have left an hour early.”

Dawne Mudford’s trip to Chtham was also extended on Wednesday.

“Warning to anyone travelling from Wallaceburg to Chatham today on #40. I spent 23 minutes waiting to get through the waterbed bend area, due to construction,” she wrote on social media.

“Leave early or avoid the area altogether. 43 minutes to make a 20 minute trip for me. I hope this helps those who need to go to Chatham today.”

MTO encourages travellers to adjust their travel time to accommodate the anticipated delay during the day, Kuisma said.

“511 Traveller Information Services offers information about Ontario’s provincially maintained highways, including Highway 40, with information about ongoing road work.”
