Motorists can expect delays when travelling on Highway 40 between Wallaceburg and Chatham.

Construction has started between Base Line and Heritage Line just south of Wallaceburg. The section of road will be down to one lane, as crews resurface the roadway.

The work caused some significant delays for motorists on Wednesday morning.

“We were stopped at Rona and took us 30 minutes to get to Heritage Line where it ends,” Gail Cook told the Sydenham Current, adding the delay caused her husband to be 40 minutes late for a doctors appointment.

“We should have left an hour early.”

Dawne Mudford offered a public service announcement on social media about the construction.

“Warning to anyone travelling from Wallaceburg to Chatham today on #40. I spent 23 minutes waiting to get through the waterbed bend area, due to construction,” she wrote.

“Leave early or avoid the area altogether. 43 minutes to make a 20 minute trip for me. I hope this helps those who need to go to Chatham today.”

Local officials with the Ministry of Transportation directed the Sydenham Current to speak with the national media representatives about the project.

Contact has been made, and more details are expected later in the day.
