Drunk driver clips garbage truck

On Monday night, around 6:50 p.m. a man was driving northbound on Sandys Street in Chatham when he allegedly side swiped a stopped garbage truck.

Chatham-Kent police officials say the man initially fled the scene but returned minutes later.

Minor damage was observed and no one was injured.

Through investigation, police believed the man was operating his truck while under the influence of alcohol and he was arrested.

He was transported to police headquarters for breath tests.

A 68-year-old Chatham man has been charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit.

He was released pending a future court date of October 4, 2016.
