The 2nd annual Wallaceburg Pumpkin Fest, organized by the Wallaceburg Kinsmen, is taking place on Saturday, September 24.

One of the groups and causes being supported by the event is Cystic Fibrosis Canada, through a silent auction.

“That is our national charity,” said Eric Hancock, event organizer and Wallaceburg Kinsmen member.

“When the Kinsmen first started with Cystic Fibrosis, life expectancy of a person with cystic fibrosis was seven or eight years. It is now into their 50’s. So now, if you are diagnosed with cystic fibrosis you can plan to have a life. After high school, you can have a career, you can have a family and you couldn’t do that 50 years ago. So we are very proud of our partnership and supporting them. So the silent auction is still for that.”

Hancock said the Kinsmen will also be holding a 50/50 draw at the event.

“The proceeds from that, 50% is going to the winning ticket and the other half is going back to the Kinsmen Club and than again going back into the community and to support the running of our club. It costs money to keep our club going.”

Hancock added: “The bulk of the money does go back into the community. That is always our first mandate, to meet the communities needs. That is the foremost and at the forefront on any decisions we make.”

Hancock said the 50/50 tickets are available at various locations across Wallaceburg.

“There are some with Mike Vandenberg at Vandenberg Tax Service. The Moose Lodge has some and I believe they have some at the Progressive Ford there. So there are several places in town.”
