Wallaceburg’s Seth Griffith’s time with the Boston Bruins could be over.

The 23-year-old winger was cut by the NHL club on Monday and placed on waivers.

Don Sweeney, the Bruins’ general manager, announced that Griffith, along with two other players, were placed on waivers “for the purpose of assignment to the Providence Bruins” of the American Hockey League.

However, this might not be the case for the former London Knights star.

Since Griffith was designated for assignment, the other 29 NHL teams can put in a claim for him.

The claims process starts at noon Eastern Time and ends 24 hours later.

If only one team makes a claim for him, then Griffith will be transferred to the claiming team.

If more than one team makes a claim, then Griffith would be transferred to the team with the lowest point total from last season, since the transaction is taking place before this season has started.

If no team puts in a claim, he’d be sent back to Providence and remain with the Bruins organization.

In limited action this pre-season, Griffith scored one goal, a game-winner against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

This off-season Griffith signed a one-year, two-way deal with Boston.

The contract will carry through the 2016-17 season at an NHL cap figure of $625,000 per year.

Griffith didn’t get off to a great start last season, injuring his knee in the team’s first preseason game.

Eventually, Griffith competed in four games for the NHL club last season, recording one assist. He also had the opportunity to play in the NHL’s annual outdoor ‘Winter Classic’ game.

Griffith tore it up in 57 contests for Boston’s AHL-affiliate, where he compiled 24 goals and 53 assists for 77 points. He finished the 2015-16 regular season ranked first in the league in assists and second in scoring en route to being named an AHL First-Team All-Star.

In total, the 23-year-old forward has played in 34 NHL games with Boston, racking up six goals and five assists for 11 points.

The 5’9”, 191-pound Griffith was drafted by Boston in the fifth round (131st overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
