Dresden’s Lauren Nicholson was rewarded by the Ryerson Rams for her stellar performance in her first week in OUA hockey action.

Nicholson was named the Female Athlete of the Week for the school, as the women’s hockey team went 1-0-0-1 in two games to start the season.

The first year forward recorded her first three OUA points, assisting on the game-winning goal against Toronto, before netting her first OUA goal and adding an assist in a shootout loss to York.

Last year Nicholson was a member of the Chatham Outlaws, who won the Lower Lakes Female Midget Hockey championship.

Ryerson head coach Lisa Haley describes Nicholson as an under the radar type of player, who they are glad to have on their squad.

“Lauren is a diamond in the rough whose talents are about to be uncovered here at Ryerson,” said Haley.

“She is a pure goal-scorer, she plays a simple and tough style, and is one of those players that you love to have on your team and are relieved to not have to play against her. She’s physically strong and fit and she’s ready for the level of play of the OUA.”

An honour roll student four years running at UCC, Nicholson will study in the business management program at the Toronto university.
