Provincial silver for Horrobin

Wallaceburg’s Beth Horrobin helped the St. Clair College Cross Country Women’s team capture a silver medal at the OCAA Provincial Championships on the weekend.

The Saints Women’s team snagged the Silver Medal amongst the 22 participating schools at Seneca College’s King City campus.

Horrobin finished in 12th Place with a time of 23:34.

Horrobin, along with two of her teammates, were named to Team Ontario’s Second Team.

Horrobin and her team have now qualified for the Canadian Collegiate National Championship, which will be hosted by Sault College.

The event will be held at Crimson Ridge Golf Course in Sault St. Marie, on Saturday, November 12th.

Griffith moves up a line

Wallaceburg’s Seth Griffith has been bumped up a line for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The 23-year-old skated on the third line for the Leafs on Sunday night, as they fell to the New York Islanders 5-1.

Griffith recorded one shot on net in 10:51 minutes of ice time, once again recording an even +/-.

In a 2-1 loss on Saturday to the Montreal Canadiens, Griffith posted two shots, one hit and an even +/- in 8:24 minutes of ice time, 1:46 of that on the powerplay.

Griffith has yet to record a point for the Leafs in three games since being inserted into the lineup.

Toronto will host Edmonton on Tuesday.

Puck drops at 7:30 p.m.

DeKoning records four points

Wallaceburg’s Alec DeKoning scored one goal and added three assists, as the Sarnia Legionnaires topped the Strathroy Rockets 8-3 on Saturday in Junior ‘B’ hockey action.

He also added an assist on Sunday, when Sarnia fell to Leamington 4-2.

DeKoning has 18 points in 16 games so far this season.

Dresden Kings drop games to Amherstburg, Lakeshore

The Dresden Kings dropped two games on the weekend.

On Friday night, the Kings lost a close, back-and-forth game to the Admirals by a score of 6-5.

Kevin Ritzer and Dillon Liberty each had a pair of goals, while Derek Shaw netted the other for Dresden.

On Sunday, Lakeshore topped the Kings 9-3.

Liberty, Ritzer and Macks Holmes all scored for Dresden.

The Kings (6-9-1) will host Essex on Friday night.

Wallaceburg Lakers lose two on the road

The Lakers dropped a pair of games on the road over the weekend.

On Friday, Wallaceburg fell to Lakeshore, 11-4.

Nick Tetreault, Josh Oberg, Justin Lindsay and Brayden Kettlewell scored in the loss.

On Sunday night, Wallaceburg got blanked by the Amherstburg Admirals, 5-0.

The Lakers (1-11-1) will hope to turn things around on Wednesday, when they host the Essex 73’s (8-3-1).
