Morning Coffee – By Aaron Hall
Yesterday morning, I shared a story with you about Alvinston Minor Ball changing their name from the Indians to a yet-to-be-determined name.
The organization has started a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds to help them replace their uniforms, equipment and signs/banners at their ball park.
They are also using the tag line: ‘If the pro’s won’t do it, we will.’
The Cleveland Indians, the Washington Redskins and the Chicago Blackhawks are among the professional sports teams that have been met with scrutiny over the years about the choice of the team’s nickname.
Many people have said the names are racist, derogatory and disrespectful.
Yet, no major sports franchise has ever made the same drastic change that the Alvinston Baseball Club has done.

Replace the Lord Selkirk Bridge
It appears our readers want to skip the patch work, and completely replace the old Lord Selkirk Bridge in Wallaceburg.
While the actual age of the bridge is in dispute, many readers have said the bridge was built in 1950 and the Municipality says it was built in 1946/1947, either way the bridge is getting old and near the end of its lifespan.
Back in 2014, Municipal officials said the replacement value of the Lord Selkirk Bridge is approximately $20,400,000. A decision on the future plans can be expected in the new year,
Here are the poll results:

A group of about 15 UCC students gathered canned goods instead of candy last night for Halloween in Wallaceburg.
Emily MacLachlan, 16, told us that as part of their ‘We Scare Hunger’ campaign, approximately 300 canned goods were gathered from the community.
MacLachlan said if they missed anyone, they can bring a donation to the office at Holy Family Catholic Church from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. this week, instead of the Our Lady Of Help Parish Centre.
Great work! It’s nice to see our youth stepping up and helping out our community in a positive way.
