As the first Santa Claus parade in the region strolls through Wallaceburg on Saturday, some familiar faces will be leading the procession.

For 20 plus years, the St. Bernard Dogs and the Wallaceburg firefighters have led the way at the event, and they will be back again to lead off the 47th running of the Knights of Pythias Santa Claus Parade.

“The Salvation Army and Saint Vincent de Paul are in great need at this time of year,” said Heather Janssens, who spearheads this portion of the parade.

“Please give generously to the Fire Department and Saint Bernard Dogs at the beginning of parade. They are collecting canned goods and non-perishable food items and toys. They will also be collecting non-perishable food and other items for the Wallaceburg Animal Shelter.”

Janssens said all items for the food banks will be divided evenly for each.

“Come on out and support the parade and community,” she said.

Janssens added ‘Daisy-Mae’ and ‘Porkchop’ – the Saint Bernard Dogs – are hoping other St. Bernard’s will join them.

Call Janssens at 519-437-5800 for more information.

The overall theme for the parade this year is ‘Mystical Christmas’.

There will also be a contingent of lawn tractors once again, as the participants continue to attempt to break the Guinness World record.

The parade route starts on Arnold Street and proceeds east on Dufferin Avenue, continuing east on James Street, north on Nelson Street, west on Elgin Street and concluding at the St. Clair Catholic District School Board parking lot on Elgin Street.

The parade gets started at 2 p.m.
