Cougars hand out awards

The Chatham-Kent Cougars held their annual banquet and awards ceremony on the weekend.

Here are the awards handed out to the Wallaceburg teams in the league:

Seth sits

Wallaceburg’s Seth Griffith was a healthy scratch for the Florida Panthers on Sunday night, as the Panthers topped the New York Rangers 3-2.

Griffith did suit up on Saturday night, as Florida won 4-1 over Ottawa. The 23-year-old winger had no points, and had a -1 +/- rating in 11:09 minutes of action.

Griffith also played on Thursday in a 6-1 Panthers loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Griffith was the only player on the squad with a positive +/- rating. He was +1 in 13:25 minutes of action, but was held without a point.

In three games with Florida, Griffith has recorded one assist.

The Panthers are hosting Philadelphia on Tuesday in their next match-up.

Kings top Blades, second game cancelled

The Dresden Kings came from behind to beat the top-ranked Blenheim Blades on Friday night, by a score of 5-4.

Kevin Ritzer led the way for Dresden with 2 goals and 1 assist, including the game winner at the 13:57 mark of the third period.

Logan Purbrick, Austin Bentley and Macks Holmes also scored for the Kings, who had been down 3-0 at one point in the game held at Dresden Arena.

Joel Sowinski made 25 saves in the win.

Dresden and Blenheim were set to square-off for another game in Blenheim on Sunday, however the game was postponed.

With the win on Friday, Dresden improved their record to 10-11-1 good for a tie with Wheatley for 5th in the Stobbs Division.

Blenheim, who is 13-7-2 on the year, are now tied atop the league with the Amherstburg Admirals with 28 points on the season so far.

Dresden will travel to Lakeshore on Friday night in their next game.

Lakers lose

The Wallaceburg Lakers fell to the Wheatley Sharks on Saturday night in Wheatley, by a score of 5-1.

Josh Oberg scored the lone goal for the Lakers.

Wallaceburg continues to struggle, as they remain last in the league with a 1-17-1 record.

The Lakers will host Lakeshore on Wednesday at Wallaceburg Memorial Arena.
