Riverport Restaurant Morning Coffee – By Aaron Hall

riverport-new-year

With 2016 coming to a close, we’ve decided to take a look back at some of the moments, the people and the stories that helped shape the community over the past year.

For the past week we have been going month-by-month and taking a look at the headlines on the Sydenham Current in our Year In Review feature. This will culminate on Saturday, December 31 with our Top 10 Stories of the Year.

During our Morning Coffee feature this week, which is graciously being sponsored by Riverport Restaurant in downtown Wallaceburg, we are looking back on 2016 in some different and fun ways as well.

Today, we are looking back on the ‘2016 Top 10 Photos of the Year’.

Have a look below!

It started out as a nice photo at WAMBO 28 with the Phoenix Cheer group from Chatham, until the Baldoon Witch and her goat swooped in with the photo bomb! However, this made the picture priceless and landed a spot in our Top 10. Photo by Tami Schram, Sydenham Current.

This photo is one of many from the Wallaceburg Remembrance Day service held in Wallaceburg. I love how the photo focuses in on a particular aspect of the annual service, the cadet on duty in front of the cenotaph, showcasing her multiple badges, medals and patches. View more photos from the event here. Photo by Linda Howlett, Sydenham Current.

It was a beautiful moment when the RCMP Musical Ride made a stop in Dresden this year, filling the Dresden Raceway with spectators. It was hard to pick just one photo from this awesome event, see them all here. Photo by Tami Schram, Sydenham Current.

This photo was snapped at the annual Dragon Boat Festival in downtown Wallaceburg. It looks like the dragon on the front of the boat is staring directly into the camera! Check out the full gallery here. Photo by Jocelyn McLaughlin, Sydenham Current.

This photo was snapped at the Wallaceburg Easter Egg Hunt, which is always a haven for awesome photos of our local youth. Here a boy, who is volunteering at the event, finds a perfect spot for an egg as he tosses it to the ground. Check out all the photos here. Photo by Aaron Hall, Sydenham Current.

This photo was snapped at the annual Dresden Legion Kid’s Fishing Derby. Some volunteers are helping the boy with some bait for his hook, as the boy looks on. In the background you can see the kid’s lined up along the banks of the Sydenham River for the event. See all the photos here. Photo by Jocelyn McLaughlin, Sydenham Current.

This photo comes from the Wallaceburg Kinsmen Pumpkinfest held this fall in Wallaceburg. Willy Fields and his son enjoyed a trip down the slide, and just look at those smiles! Awesome. Here are all of the photos from the event. Photo by Aaron Hall, Sydenham Current.

This photo was snapped at the Pet and Hobby Parade in Dresden. The pup stood still long enough to show off (his/her) awesome frog costume! ‘Hey guys look at me!’ Check out all the photos from the event here. Photo by Jocelyn McLaughlin, Sydenham Current.

Wildlife photographer extraordinaire Butch Dompierre captured some amazing photos this year of some snowy owls, just outside of Wallaceburg. Look at the galleries here and here. Thanks for allowing us to run these amazing shots, Butch! Photo submitted by Butch Dompierre.

The ever-photogenic Ken ‘Crazy Legs’ Murphy captures our number one spot this year. Although ‘Crazy Legs’ took a spill in the Sydenham River during the second annual running of the Cardboard Boat Races at WAMBO 28, he still managed to keep a cigar hanging from his mouth. What an awesome and entertaining moment! Photo by Tami Schram, Sydenham Current.
