Riverport Restaurant Morning Coffee – By Aaron Hall
Despite earlier predictions of a ‘Classic Canadian Winter’ this season, forecasters are predicting this may not be the case anymore.
Reports say Environment Canada officials are predicting La Nina, which includes cool sea surface conditions in the Pacific Ocean, has moderated and may dissipate by the end of January. This had been expected to bring a ton of lake-effect snow and chilly temperatures to Southwestern Ontario.
A more normal, and possibly warmer, winter is now more likely.
However, this may not feel like the case for the rest of this week.
High temperatures of -8°C are expected for Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Chatham-Kent, with lows dropping to as low as -14°C overnight.
By next week, the temperatures are expected to rise to 4°C by Wednesday and hover around the freezing mark by late next week.
Either way, my gauge for when spring arrives each season is getting closer and closer by the day… there are now only 89 days until Opening Day for Major League Baseball.
