Students at Walpole Island’s school will be heading home early today (January 16), due to the risk of freezing rain.

Bkejwanong Kinomaagewgamig posted on social media that they will be having an early 1:30 p.m. dismissal time.

“All after school programs are cancelled,” the school posted.

“BCC will not be accepting our students.”

Buses are running as scheduled for the Lambton-Kent District School Board, St. Clair Catholic District School Board and the Conseil Scolaire Catholique Providence.

A freezing rain warning was issued by Environment Canada at 10:56 a.m.

Forecasters say freezing rain is expected to develop this afternoon and will change to rain by early Tuesday morning.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.

Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas.

Slow down driving in slippery conditions.

Watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance.

Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.
