A pole fire in Wallaceburg on Monday knocked out power for approximately 1,623 customers.

Entegrus officials confirmed the outage was sparked by blaze on Baseline Road in Wallaceburg.

A switch that was arcing was the cause of the fire, Entegrus officials told the Sydenham Current.

The outage occurred at approximately 5:50 p.m.

Entegrus was able to restore approximately 1,000 customers by 5:57 p.m., with the remaining being restored by 6:16 p.m.

The Baseline Bridge was closed to traffic while Entegrus crews fixed the problem.

Const. Kelly Helbin, public information officer with the Chatham-Kent Police Service, said emergency crews responded to the fire near the bridge.

“Hydro was also contacted and dismissed police from the area as they were no longer required for traffic control,” Helbin said.

Multiple businesses were impacted by the outage, including Walmart.
