The Knights of Pythias in Wallaceburg elected and installed their new members and executive this past week.

Wallaceburg’s Jerry Blake was elected as Chancellor Commander for the local group.

“It’s a little more responsibility,” Blake told the Sydenham Current.

“You have to work your work way up to Chancellor Commander, and I’m honored to be elected to that position. It feels good to do it. We can do it for three years, and get elected to do it again, if we do a good job. Hopefully in four years I will still be here.”

Blake said the group plans on running their usual events this upcoming year, like the Santa Claus Parade and Easter Egg Hunt, and they have some ideas for new activities as well.

“Right now we are getting the golf tournament underway, and that’s a major fundraiser for the Santa Claus Parade,” he said.

“That is where most of the money comes from for the big band from Port Huron. We are going to have barbeques, Easter Egg Hunt, breakfast with Santa, obviously the parade. We are looking into a euchre tournament here at the hall on a regular basis and also darts. None of that has been finalized yet. We are trying to get more people attracted to the hall.”

Blake said the K of P could use some more bodies on their club.

“We need members, biggest thing is members, and volunteers,” he said.

“Usually all of our funding comes from small businesses. As far as the community just coming out and showing support. That’s what makes the parade worthwhile. When you are going down the road and seeing all of the kids and everybody enjoying the parade, that’s our paycheck. Because everything we do here, 100% of the funds goes back to the kids.”
