Some predictions for the Donald Trump presidency

I haven’t commented on the U.S. Presidential ‘election’ since before the actual date on November 8.

Now, I can’t NOT comment, not after seeing the huge ‘Women’s March’ movement on Inauguration Day.

Maybe it was the shock that Trump became President-elect. Maybe it was the shock that someone with no political experience could buy the top job in that country. Ross Perot tried, but failed.

Of course, Trump didn’t actually win the election. He lost the popular vote by more than 2 million votes to Hilary Clinton.

People in THIS country say that we need electoral reform, but, compared the the U.S., we’re laughing. Not one of my American friends understands their ‘Electoral College’ system in their own country, and, despite research, I’m still not sure I get it either.

And some of them are frankly scared about their futures in their own country. More than one is Latino, by the way.

What made the Americans pick a misogenystic, racist bully (with no political experience) as their chief-of-state?

I think it’s frustration in many ways. Frustration with a Congress with a low approval rating, frustration with a government that couldn’t accomplish its goals because of Republican obstruction, frustration with the loss of jobs and industry to cheaper markets, and the frustration caused by the ‘us versus them’ mentality of the right-wing media, just to name a few. They’re the ones who describe any disagreement with conservative views as ‘political enemies’, not ‘political opponents;.

Well, their new President comes in with the lowest (initial) popular rating of a newly-elected President in more than 40 years. He plans to reduce regulation, eliminate environmental controls, managed to offend other powers even before taking office, has fired all Obama-appointed ambassadors, and the list of lies Trump made are well-documented (81 in total so far) in Politico magazine (Jan. 20, 2017) Take a look. Lots of other sources to look at as well.

So many Americans seemed to forget that the idea of building a massive wall was first done by the Russians in Berlin and the Nazis in Warsaw.

Is Trump’s election good for Canada? Don’t make me laugh! Only if we need a wall built between our countries. No! Wait! Trump would say that we’d have to pay for it.

I seldom make predictions, but today, I’ll make three:

1) That the right-wing militias will become a huge problem for Trump, when they realize that his administration isn’t going to follow through on so many promises.

2) That the Republican leadership will draw further and further away from Trump, and make his life even more difficult.

3) That there will be major attempt to impeach Trump, within the first three years.
