CKNN Spring Conference details

Save the date for Thursday, April 27 for Chatham-Kent Nonprofit Networkā€™s Third Annual Spring Conference.

This year the group is shaking things up with the theme, ā€œOn the Edge of Changeā€.

The keynote speaker, Suzanne Gibson (Suzanne Gibson and Associates), will be leading a high-energy interactive morning session that will provide participants with meaningful ideas, strategies and responses while working towards creating positive transformation and looking at how this sector, can organize and personally navigate change. The morning continues with breakout sessions where participants can choose to attend two of four topics:

How Effective is your Board?Ā Presented by: Dharshi Lacey, Director, Diversity & Governance, Pillar Nonprofit Network

ā€œChange Starts at Homeā€: How we nurture vital, engaged staff teams as we tackle our visions.Ā Presented by: Anne McKay, Anne McKay Consulting

Care for the Care-GiverĀ Presented by: Velvet Peart, Family Service Kent

Your Vibe Attracts Your Tribe: Itā€™s not always about finding relevance in our rapidly changing world. Itā€™s making sure that relevant people find you. Presented by: John Lyons, Hub Creative Group

After lunch participants will be energized through an inspiring talk and a community jam session led by Julie Ross from SongC!rcle with special guest Bren DubƩ. The remainder of the afternoon will be spent together as participants delve into the Hot Topic Panel: The Nonprofit Hunger Games. This session will touch on the tougher issues that affect the sector (and outside the sector) with topics such as: competitive fundraising, staff retention and much more. Participants will be encouraged to pose their own questions during the registration process. To celebrate and relax after a day of learning the group is ending early in order to host a Nonprofit Happy Hour.

EmployerOne Survey wraps up

The Chatham-Kent Workforce Planning Board’s EmployerOne Survey has wrapped up for another year, and thanks to the support of their employers, organizers say it was a great success.

The EmployerOne survey is an annual data collection tool used in Chatham-Kent to identify hiring patterns, challenges, concerns and successes in our current workforce. This survey is completed throughout Ontario and provides an opportunity for community comparators.

This rich ā€œsnap shotā€ data is impossible to find (especially at such a local level) without the participation of our local employers. It includes information on separations, hires, training, recruitment and hard to fill positions.

Now in its third year, the EmployerOne Survey data will help us identify workforce trends that are specific to Chatham-Kent, and thanks to their partnership with the Local Boards in the Western Region, the University of Guelph and Statistics Canada, the group will also be able to roll up their data and identify regional developments.

Key Points:

– Participation increased 39% over 2016 participation numbers (and 175% over our 2015 numbers)

– Responses were received from all key sectors and geographic areas

– We had a survey completion rate of 82%

A full, detailed report of their findings will be available to the community in March 2017.

Watch their site www.ckworkforcedev.com for more information.

If you are interested in having the findings sent directly to you once they are available, email CKWorkforce@chatham-kent.ca and you will be included you in the mailout.

If you have a suggestion, story idea, column idea, or if you want to say helloā€¦ drop me an e-mail at aaron@sydenhamcurrent.ca.
