The Wallaceburg Splash Pad committee is on the home stretch for their fundraising campaign in the community.

And the Wallaceburg Optimist Club got the group $4,000 closer to their goal earlier this week.

“The community has been extremely generous,” Judy Bachus, a Wallaceburg Splash Pad committee member, told the Sydenham Current.

“We have only been fundraising for about 16 or 18 months. To date we have raised about $120,000 and we are looking to raise at least $160,000, so we have another $40,000 to go. We are hoping to have the Splash Pad up and running this summer.”

Bachus said the tentative opening date in July 1, but it will likely take place a couple of weeks afterwards.

The Wallaceburg Optimist Club has been helpful with the Splash Pad group since they started their campaign, assisting with raffles and holding licenses, Bachus said.

“They were extremely generous with their money.”

Sandra Johnston, a committee member with the Optimist Club, said all the money their group raises is through bingo’s at Wallaceburg Hometown Bingo.

Their donations are always directed at youth-related programs as well, she added.

“That’s our motto… ‘Friend of the Youth’. If people keep supporting the bingo’s, then the community will be supported.”

The donation was made on Monday at the regular meeting for the Optimist Club.

The Splash Pad committee is holding a trivia night coming up on Saturday, April 1.

Cost is $25 per person, and you need to have a team of eight people, for a total cost of $200 to participate.

The event will be held at the CBD Club in Wallaceburg and the doors open at 8 p.m.
