The Criminal Investigations Unit of the Chatham-Kent Police Service continues to investigate a fire, which destroyed a home on Hiram Street in Wallaceburg on Saturday.
Sgt. Ed Gibson told the Sydenham Current the incident is being investigated as an arson.
“There were no occupants at the time of the fire,” Gibson said.
“Damage is estimated at $100,000… it appears to be a complete loss.”
Gibson said the call came into the police at 1:58 p.m. on Saturday, April 22.
The home was a rental unit, Gibson said.
The homeowner and the tenants of the house have been notified about the blaze.
Chris Case, assistant fire chief with the Chatham-Kent Fire Department, told the Sydenham Current he would not provide any details or comments about the incident while the police investigation was active.
