Big Bike rolling through next week

The Heart and Stroke Foundation’s Big Bike fundraiser will be rolling through Chatham-Kent next week.

It all kicks off in Wallaceburg on Tuesday.

Here are the routes:

WALLACEBURG on May 16 from 10 AM – 7:30 PM: Starting at the Black Goose on James Street and proceeding east on James Street, north on Duncan Street, west on Wellington Street, south through municipal parking lot, east on James Street and returning to the Black Goose.

CHATHAM on May 17 from 10 AM – 8 PM: Starting at Frendz on King Street West and proceeding east to William Street, south to Wellington Street West, West to 2nd Street, north to King Street, east on King Street West and returning to Frendz.

CHATHAM on May 18 from 10 AM – 8 PM: Starting at Blair’s Boot Camp on Forest Street and proceeding west to St. Clair Street, north to McNaughton Avenue, east to Victoria Avenue, south to Forest Street and returning to Blair’s Boot Camp.

TILBURY on May 23 from 10 AM – 8 PM: Starting at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Dupuis Avenue and proceeding east on Bond Street, north on Queen Street, west on Prospect Street, south on Lyon Street, west on Canal Street, south on Dupuis Street and returning to the Knights of Columbus Hall.

CHATHAM on May 24 from 10 AM – 8 PM: Starting at Kelsey’s on Richmond Street and proceeding east on Richmond Street to the parking lot across from Holiday Inn Express (former Navistar Parking Lot), turning around in parking lot and exiting back on to Richmond Street and continuing west returning to Kelsey’s.

RIDGETOWN on May 25 from 10 AM – 8 PM: Starting at the Village on the Ridge Retirement Home and proceeding east on Myrtle Street, north on Lisgar Street, west on Main Street, south on Erie Street, east on Myrtle Street and returning to the Village on the Ridge Retirement Home.

BLENHEIM on May 26 from 10 AM – 8 PM: Starting at the Royal Canadian Legion and proceeding west on Catherine Street, north on Marlborough Street, east on Talbot Street, south on Sandys Street, west on John Street, north on Chatham Street, west on Jane Street and returning to the Royal Canadian Legion on the corner of Talbot Street and Catherine.

Syrian refugee sponsorship gala on Saturday in Dresden

A gala dinner is taking place at the Dresden Christian Reformed Church tomorrow in support of Syrian refugee sponsorship in the community.

Joe Grootenboer, one of the organizers, told the Sydenham Current the event will be held at the Mooney Street church in Dresden.

“We are serving five courses of very good quality local food prepared by a chef,” Grootenboer said.

“We intend to put on a truly elegant and unforgettable evening. We have live music from several musicians performing some instrumental and some singing to go with the evening.”

The dress code is cocktail and the doors open at 6 p.m., with the dinner being served at 6:30 p.m.

Grootenboer said they are also letting the guests know what is going on in Dresden for refugee sponsorship.

Lakers BBQ

The Wallaceburg Lakers will be holding a barbecue fundraiser at Rona in Wallaceburg on Saturday, May 13.

It will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries and drinks will be for sale.

People will have the opportunity to take a look at their items for their silent auction as well.

There will also be karaoke entertainment, hosted by ‘Shining Light’.

Lego fun at the Wallaceburg Library

Everyone is welcome to come and get creative with the libraries bins of LEGO. They have wheels, bricks and special pieces. Bring some friends or meet new ones. The second Saturday of every month, next date is June 10.
