The Ontario government is allowing Canadian residents to fish for free across the province from June 27 to July 5 as part of Canada Day celebrations.
The Ministry of Natural Resources says no licence or Outdoors Card is required during the period, aimed at encouraging residents to enjoy Ontario’s lakes and rivers.
Minister Mike Harris said the initiative is intended to make it easier for families and individuals to take part in recreational fishing during the holiday period.
All existing fishing regulations, including catch limits and conservation rules, remain in effect during the free fishing period.
The province notes recreational fishing contributes significantly to Ontario’s economy, generating billions of dollars annually and supporting tourism and jobs across the province.
Outside of free fishing periods, most anglers aged 18 to 64 require an Outdoors Card and licence.
