Police pursuit ends with rooftop arrest

The Chatham-Kent Police have arrested a man following a pursuit in Chatham.

Police officials say at approximately 2 a.m. this morning, police observed a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of a business on St. Clair Street.

As the officer approached the vehicle, it fled the area at a high rate of speed.

Following a short pursuit the vehicle lost control and struck a tree, at which time the driver fled on foot, police officials allege.

K9 Arry was deployed and successfully located the male on a nearby residential rooftop.

Through investigation officers determined that the male had broken in to the gated compound on the property where he was originally located, police say.

The 31-year-old Chatham man has been charged with break and enter, possession of break-in tools, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, failure to comply, and a number of other traffic related offenses.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
